Shaving excision

Shaving excision is a simple procedure used to treat protruding skin moles/plaques and certain lesions. After locally anesthetizing the skin, the lesions/moles/skin/marks/warts above the skin surface are removed using a scalpel. The result is a flat white mark left after healing. Sometimes the color may remain the same as the original mole.

Excision

In cases where lesions/moles/cysts/skin scales/warts are flat or when a melanoma is suspected, an excisional biopsy is required. During this procedure, the full depth of the mole is removed and the wound is sutured. The specimen is then sent to a laboratory for a pathological examination. After curing, excision causes a slight scar that takes the form of a thin line, although it may sometimes be more visible than the mole/lesion/cyst.

During excisions on the face, Dr. Korkis uses a combination of extremely fine sutures on the surface of the skin and resorbable sutures under the skin.
